Congratulations - U.S. News & World Report Recognition - America's Best Children's Hospitals - 2018-2019

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the leadership team of MUSC Children's Health, we would like to recognize and congratulate our team of pediatric health care team members on the recognition by U.S. News & World Report on America's Best Children's Hospitals for 2018-2019.

Once again, MUSC Children's Health in Charleston has been recognized as having six pediatric specialties ranked in the top 50 programs across the nation. Those include Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Cancer, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Nephrology, Orthopaedics, and Urology. While this recognition highlights those six specialty areas, this achievement could not have been accomplished without the outstanding work by all of our care team members at MUSC Children's Health.

I would like to personally congratulate our pediatric healthcare team members for their continued dedication and commitment to delivering the highest quality of pediatric health care. The collective and ongoing efforts at MUSC Children's Health to further develop programs to serve children and families from South Carolina and beyond could also not be accomplished without the support of our many physician colleagues across the country.

During the next 12-18 months we will be working aggressively to further advance pediatric healthcare, as we finish construction and open two new facilities that will serve all children closer to home, and in the best of facilities with advanced technology and highly trained pediatric healthcare team members.

In early, 2019 we will be opening our pediatric ambulatory campus in North Charleston. This 98,000 square foot facility will house more than 27 pediatric specialty clinics and will have ambulatory surgery capabilities with 4 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms. We will also be offering imaging, infusion services, after hours care and other services. This facility will be easily accessible via I-26 and will provide seamless integration of care for patients and families in one location.

In addition to providing improved ease of access in our ambulatory site, our new MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women's Pavilion will be opening in the fall of 2019. This technologically advanced facility will include up to 250 beds, with 82 NICU beds which will represent the largest neonatal intensive care unit in South Carolina. This NICU will consist primarily of private rooms with special accommodations for multiple births, and will be only one of a few facilities in the country to feature couplet-care rooms, where newborns and mothers can recover together in an intensive-care setting.

As we continue to imagine what's possible, please join me in congratulating those who have helped us realize our dream to further advance pediatric healthcare for all children. Please don't hesitate to contact me for additional information on our services and programs, or our new facilities.

Sincerely,

Mark Scheurer, M.D.
