Treating Left Ventricular Dysfunction in Infants by Use of Reversible Pulmonary Artery Band

Minoo Kavarana, M.D., a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon at MUSC, discusses a new procedure. By placing a reversible pulmonary artery band around a child’s pulmonary artery, surgeons are able to help patients survive longer while they wait for a heart transplant without using ventricular assist devices. A few patients have even responded well enough to be taken off the transplant list and are healthy and at home.
